How to Plan a Productive Day

November 14, 2020

A lot of people want to be productive and efficient in their work, but don’t have the actual knowledge or know-how to do that. There is no “right” way to be productive, but in this blog post, I’ll teach you how to use a simple rule to plan your day to limit distractions and know exactly what you need to be working on at all times.

The 1-3-5 Rule

The 1-3-5 rule is simple. Choose one task you have to get done that day no matter what. Choose 3 “could-do” or “should-do” tasks to get done if you have time. And finally choose 5 low friction, low effort tasks to do that day as well.

If you plan your day using this 1-3-5 rule the night before, I can guarantee you’ll be more productive and feel more productive. The reason most of us get off task or procrastinate is because we have so much to do, we don’t know where to start.

By implementing this simple rule, you can wake up and get straight to work with the proper information on your list. The best thing about this rule is that once you accomplish your tasks, you’re done for the day. So if you finish at 1:00pm, you have peace to switch gears and hang out with friends and family without worrying you missed a project or task at work.
